As Scotland's biggest city, Glasgow is well connected. All the big names offer a broadband service here, along with some smaller players. Fibre coverage here is among the best in Scotland, thanks to extensive work by both BT Openreach and independent network provider CityFibre. That means most Glasgow residents can access very high broadband speeds if they want.

When it comes to the internet, Weegies have plenty of options, so take your time to compare and you can't go far wrong.

What is the best broadband in Glasgow?

Broadband is a competitive market where deals change all the time, so we'd never say that any one provider is best. All the major UK broadband providers serve Glasgow, so you have plenty of choice.

We'd suggest you use our address checker (above) to get the full, up-to-date range of options for your home. Wherever you live in Glasgow, we'll only show you relevant results from the trusted providers on our panel. Here's how to choose the best deal for you.

Speed

Picking the best speed category is key. Take 30 seconds to tell our bandwidth calculator how many people you live with and what kind of thing you need to do online. This will help you determine how much speed to go for.

How much broadband speed do I need?

Price

Our search makes it easy to filter your results by price. Don't just look at the headline figure showing the starting monthly payment. Most broadband contracts come with mid-contract price hikes, so factor these into your calculations. When you sign up, you should already know:

  • When your monthly payments are due to go up
  • How much they're going up by

If your provider doesn't make this clear at the start, you'll have the right to leave when they announce the first round of price rises.

Customer service

We usually suggest that people check out the ratings for broadband providers on independent sites like Trustpilot. If you have the time for extra research, it's also worth asking on sites like Nextdoor or local Facebook groups. That gives you an idea of what people in your specific part of Glasgow think of different broadband providers.

What is the cheapest broadband in Glasgow?

Providers are always updating what's on offer, so we can't name one provider as the cheapest. We'd just suggest you use our comparison tool at the top of this page to see what's available at your address and sort by 'Cost (Low to High)'.

Check out our guide to cheap broadband for some tips to bring the cost down.

If you're on a low income and getting certain benefits, you could possibly qualify for social tariff broadband. You'll have to prove that you're getting means-tested benefits.

What is the fastest broadband in Glasgow?

Full fibre coverage is great in the Dear Green Place, so there are plenty of super-speedy options available for most residents.

Some parts of Glasgow can get gigabit broadband - that is, speeds over 1Gbps (1,000Mbps). At the time of writing, here are the fastest broadband contracts we’ve got that are available in Glasgow:

  • YouFibre’s You 8000 plan has an average speed of 7,000 Mbps
  • Sky’s Full Fibre 5 Gigafast+ plan gives you an average speed of 5,000 Mbps
  • Zen Internet's Full Fibre Max deal offers an average speed of 2,300Mbps
  • Vodafone offers the same speed with its Pro 3 Full Fibre 1,800Mbps deal.

Most people don't really need broadband speeds that fast. If you pick a speed category just below the gigabit threshold, you'll pay significantly less.

  • Pop Telecom and Rebel both have plans with average speeds of 944 Mbps
  • TalkTalk’s Full Fibre 900 contract gives you average speeds of 940 Mbps
  • Community Fibre’s 1 Gbps Fibre Broadband package has average speeds of 920 Mbps

Another option for a speedy internet connection is Virgin Media's cable network. Cable coverage isn't as extensive as fibre, but it's a bit above the UK average in Glasgow. Good areas for Virgin include:

  • Broomhill
  • Carlton
  • Garscadden
  • Hillhead

If cable is available in your area, you'll see Virgin Media deals among your results when you do an address search with us.

Fibre broadband Glasgow

Ofcom's Connected Nations: Scotland report from December 2024 names Glasgow as the third best area of Scotland for fibre coverage.(The top spot went to Aberdeen.) 89% of homes in Glasgow have access to a full fibre connection and the number is rising.

If your part of Glasgow is on a hybrid fibre connection, you should upgrade to full fibre for the top speeds. If you use our address checker and get full fibre deals in your results, that means it's possible to get a full fibre (FTTP) connection. Many providers won't charge for the engineer visit but check before you sign up.

BT Openreach has the monopoly on building fibre networks in most UK cities, but in Glasgow there's also independent infrastructure provider CityFibre. In May 2025 the Glasgow Times reported that parts of Giffnock were struggling to access full fibre because of access issues. That's quite unusual, though. In most areas there won't be a problem connecting.

What are the broadband providers in Glasgow?

All the national providers and a few smaller independent providers serve Glasgow.

Our own data shows that Sky is the most popular broadband choice among the Glaswegians who use our site. Perhaps that's not surprising, given that Sky has a big share of the overall market.

Punching way above its weight among our Glasgow customers is 4th Utility. This independent provider is based in Cheshire but has expanded coverage to parts of Glasgow. Despite being much less well known, it's second on the list of broadband providers chosen through our site by people in Glasgow.

Broadband speeds in Glasgow: check yours

Data from thinkbroadband for the first quarter of 2025 says that mean download speeds in Glasgow City are 223.1Mbps. That's pretty much bang on the UK average, according to Ofcom figures.

That number is obviously an average and doesn't show how different areas vary. Whatever part of Glasgow you're in, our broadband speed checker will tell you what speeds you're currently getting from your connection. That could be very different from the speed your provider advertised when you signed up!

We'd suggest trying the speed checker a few times to build up a more detailed picture of how fast your connection is. Ideally you'd test it at different times of day to see if that makes a difference or not.
