Compare Box Broadband
Box Broadband started life as a specialist in rural broadband. The company's original aim was to bring full fibre connections to areas of the UK that otherwise would be poorly served for broadband.
What is Box Broadband?
Box Broadband was formed as an altnet - a broadband provider that lays its own cables rather than using the BT Openreach network. These are almost always limited to a specific geographical area. That's why Box Broadband only served Surrey and Sussex. The Box Broadband fibre network reached thousands of homes in these two counties.
In 2021, Box Broadband was taken over by bigger altnet Community Fibre.
Box Broadband packages
Now that Box Broadband is part of Community Fibre, any broadband packages on the Box network will come under the new brand. If you were already a customer at the time of the merger, you'll still get the same great broadband service. The only difference is that your bills and any other communications from the company will be sent from Community Fibre rather than Box Broadband.
If you're based in the south of England, including London, you may be able to get internet on the Box Broadband/Community Fibre network. Put your postcode into the address checker above to see what deals are available. (If you're not within reach of their network, we'll show you deals from other providers).
What speeds can I get with Box Broadband?
The Community Fibre network is full fibre and capable of very high speeds. As of July 2025, the slowest package on the Community Fibre website is 100Mbps. Their fastest deal is 1Gbps (1,000Mbps). That's known as gigabit broadband, which is the highest possible speed category.
Most people don't need anything quite that fast. To work out the best speed category for you, check out our guide to what broadband speed you need.
How much does Box Broadband cost?
Like many altnets, Box Broadband had a commitment to keeping prices affordable. Part of the company's mission was to provide rural broadband in places that didn't have many other internet options.
As a fellow altnet, Community Fibre is also budget-friendly. As of July 2025, the cheapest (and slowest) package on the Community Fibre residential broadband webpage is 100Mbps with an introductory offer of £0 per month for the first three months. It's then £19/month until March 2026.
As with most providers, you can expect mid-contract price hikes. The price of the cheapest deal goes up to £21/month in April 2026 and then again to £23/month from April 2027.
The latest box Broadband reviews
There aren't any current reviews naming Box Broadband because it's now been taken over by the Community Fibre brand.
As of 4 July 2025, Community Fibre is rated 4.6 stars out of 5 on Trustpilot. That qualifies as ‘Excellent’. 90% of people who rated the service gave it the full five stars.
Can I get Box Broadband in my area?
Box Broadband was previously known as a rural Surrey and Sussex provider, while Community Fibre focused on London broadband. So you'll only be within reach of the network if you're based in the south of England.
Use our postcode checker to see if you're within reach of the combined Box Broadband/Community Fibre network. If you are, all the deals you'll see will come under the Community Fibre brand.
