How to compare
Switching to a better deal? We’ve got you covered. Follow these simple steps to find a package that suits your needs....
Fibrus is on a mission to bring faster broadband to poorly connected areas, and has been making waves in the UK telco market.
But how does Fibrus compare with other broadband deals?
Check out Fibrus broadband deals and see if you can find the right product for you.
What is Fibrus broadband?
Based in Northern Ireland, Fibrus broadband was started to provide rural communities with faster internet access.
Today, Fibrus caters for both homes and businesses, serving all six Northern Irish counties.
It has also expanded to rural parts of Northern England, including Cumbria, providing customers in these areas with a more local broadband option, similar to KCOM in the North East.
Fibrus broadband packages
All residential packages with Fibrus broadband come with 24-month contracts.
Each plan offers unlimited downloads, and you get full UK-based support. Also, during setup, expect free activation, installation and engineer visits.
Contract buyout support is available if you need help switching broadband providers.
Fibrus broadband speeds
As a fibre to the premises (FTTP) provider, Fibrus broadband can offer reliable high-speed internet connections comparable with the likes of BT, Sky and Virgin Media.
Unlike most providers who use Openreach to deliver broadband services, Fibrus has built its own pure-fibre network.
Running fibre cabling from the telephone exchange where the internet comes from all the way to your home, there's no need for any copper wires, which can cause your internet speeds to dip depending on how far they have to reach.
Use our broadband speed test to find out how well your current internet is performing.
Fibrus broadband costs
Fibrus broadband deals have similar pricing to more middle-ground ISPs, such as TalkTalk and Plusnet.
They also pledge no mid-contract price hikes, as well as a few generous add-ons, including call packages and additional routers.
However, you'll need to pay extra if you want these.
Fibrus broadband router
As its broadband router, Fibrus uses Amazon's eero 6.
If at any point you decide to terminate your Fibrus broadband deal, then the router will need to be returned to them.
Do I keep my phone line with Fibrus broadband?
You won't be able to keep your existing telephone line if you switch to a Fibrus broadband deal.
This is because telephone lines are only compatible with standard or fibre to the cabinet (FTTC) connections, which use copper wiring already connected to your home to provide you with broadband.
As Fibrus broadband provides fibre to the premises connections using just fibre optic cables, you won't be able to have a traditional phone line.
Fibrus does, however, offer its own voice over IP (VOIP) service for an additional fee, and you can even port your number free of charge.
You may also be able to keep your existing home phone.
Is Fibrus broadband only?
You can get broadband only with Fibrus.
Just make sure you let your current broadband provider know that you intend to terminate your existing contract, and notify them once Fibrus has successfully connected to your property.
If you want Fibrus broadband and VOIP, then you must ask for your number to be moved to their own network. This will automatically cancel your existing landline service.
Can I get Fibrus broadband in my area?
Use our postcode checker to see if you can get Fibrus broadband where you live.
Despite its goal to bring faster broadband to poorly connected areas, some remote locations in the UK may not have the proper infrastructure to support Fibrus full fibre broadband offering.
If this applies to you, compare other rural broadband deals to see if you can find a more suitable package.
