Compare Gigaclear offers
Gigaclear is a broadband provider with a mission: to bring fast broadband to the countryside.
They're exclusively focused on targeting rural areas, especially those parts of the UK that might otherwise lag behind on connection speed. It's all about bridging the digital divide.
Key points
- Gigaclear only serves rural parts of the UK - city-dwellers need not apply
- Gigaclear broadband can reach speeds of up to 900Mbps
- As well as home broadband, Gigaclear offer business broadband to suit a range of business sizes
- All Gigaclear broadband is full fibre
Who is Gigaclear?
Gigaclear is a broadband provider that builds full fibre networks in rural parts of the UK. All Gigaclear internet is delivered through a fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) connection, which means the fibre optic cables go directly from the exchange to your home or business.
Laying and maintaining its own cables (rather than using BT Openreach like most providers) makes Gigaclear an altnet.
Gigaclear's network is open access, which means other providers can use it if they wish. (The website has a list of Gigaclear's current partners.) Gigaclear's network is the biggest exclusively rural full fibre network in the UK.
Can I get Gigaclear Broadband in my area?
Gigaclear only serves rural areas and doesn't have any coverage in cities.
In March 2024, Gigaclear passed two milestones:
- Its network grew to reach 500,000 homes and businesses
- Actual customer numbers reached 100,000

What sort of broadband does Gigaclear offer?
All Gigaclear broadband is full fibre - that is, you get a fibre optic cable directly connecting your home or business to the exchange.
This type of broadband is capable of the fastest possible speeds. Gigaclear offers broadband services at a range of speeds to suit your needs and budget.
Home broadband
Gigaclear provides a Linksys powered router with all their broadband packages. This smart hub can easily be extended, to give you greater coverage around the whole house.
You can also set up guest Wi-Fi, limit usage with parental control, as well as configure and monitor devices with the Linksys app.
Gigaclear offers four main broadband packages:
- Ultrafast 300 - average upload/download speed of 300Mbps
- Ultrafast 400 - average upload/download speed of 400Mbps
- Ultrafast 500 - average upload/download speed of 469Mbps
- Hyperfast 900 with Smart WiFi - average upload/download speed of 900Mbps
All Gigaclear's home broadband packages have an 18-month minimum term with no mid-contract price rises.
There's a £30 activation fee for every deal.
Business broadband
Gigaclear doesn't set out its pricing for business broadband in the same way as for home broadband because businesses tend to have more complex and varied needs.
What Gigaclear bundles are available?
Gigaclear doesn't offer TV channels but it does offer a landline add-on for your broadband service. Choose from:
- Unlimited evening and weekend calls to other UK landlines - £5/month
- Unlimited calls at any time, to both UK landlines and mobiles - £10/month
Both Gigaclear home phone options are one-month rolling contracts.
How much is Gigaclear broadband?
As we write this page in May 2025, Gigaclear is running a 'May Mega Deals Event' with special deals on home broadband.
These are the prices for Gigaclear's four main deals:
- Superfast 200 - £18/month
- Ultrafast 400 - £22/month
- Ultrafast 500 - £26/month
- Hyperfast 900 - £29/month
The end date for this special offer is 2 June 2025.
We'll always show you the most up-to-date prices when you search for broadband with us. You'll only see Gigaclear deals in your results if the service is available in your area.
Business broadband pricing is a bit more complex than home broadband because it's not a 'one-size-fits-all' situation. Gigaclear will need some information about your business and its needs before offering you a broadband package.
Why choose Gigaclear broadband?
If there's coverage in your area, there are lots of reasons to choose Gigaclear.
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Rural focus - Full-fibre broadband provides a reliable and fast connection for communities in the countryside who may have struggled to access the internet previously | Limited coverage - The rural focus means Gigaclear isn't an option if you live in a city |
| Fast speed - Gigaclear reaches speeds of up to 900Mbps, thanks to its full fibre network | Contract length - As of May 2025, all home packages are 18-month contracts |
| Symmetrical upload/download speeds for every home broadband service - This may be pretty standard for business broadband but most providers don't do this for home broadband | Activation charges - Although installation is usually free, there's an activation charge of £30 on every home broadband package |
| No mid-contract price hike - Guaranteed price for home broadband, so you won’t be hit by any surprising increases during your contract term | No overnight phone support - There is a number to ring if you're having problems (like an internet outage), but it's only open from 8am to 7pm |
| Smart Wi-Fi - Gigaclear’s mesh network should give you a superfast connection wherever you are in your house |
How fast is standard Gigaclear broadband?
All Gigaclear broadband is full fibre, which is the technology capable of the fastest speeds. Its slowest and cheapest package as of May 2025 is the Ultrafast 300 deal, with an advertised average download speed of 300Mbps.
Gigaclear's fastest deal is 900Mbps - a shade below the gigabit broadband threshold but still over four times faster than average and much speedier than most households need.
Every Gigaclear home broadband deal has symmetrical upload/download speeds, which is not standard for most providers and a definite selling point.
What is Gigaclear customer service like?
As of May 2025, Gigaclear had a Trustpilot rating of 4.7, which is classed as ‘Excellent’.[2] Recent reviews describe the customer service as 'excellent', 'fantastic' and 'wonderful'.
Many altnets have a different approach from the bigger broadband providers and a stronger focus on helping communities in the areas they cover.
As you've read, Gigaclear is on a mission to connect rural communities that have been poorly served for internet in the past. This means they're more likely to go the extra mile. One April 2025 review on Trustpilot mentions the company's hard work in getting cabling installed at a Grade II listed building.
If you need to get in touch, first check the FAQs on the Gigaclear support page to see if your question has already been answered. If not:
- The Gigaclear customer service phone number is 01865 591 131
- There's a live chat option online - you'll need to enter your name, email address, postcode and mobile phone number to get connected
Does Gigaclear offer broadband-only contracts?
As the UK's full fibre rollout gains pace, ADSL broadband is becoming a thing of the past and you no longer need a landline for your internet connection. So broadband-only deals are becoming standard.
Gigaclear offers a choice of broadband-only contracts in different speed categories. You can also add a home phone service if you like for an extra charge.
With full fibre broadband like Gigaclear's, any home phone service will be digital rather than through a traditional phone line. As you've read, Gigaclear's landline deals are flexible add-ons to your main broadband service. While all their broadband deals have an 18-month contract, you can cancel the phone service with just a month's notice.
Alternative providers to Gigaclear
According to the latest BT figures, the Openreach network is available to 99% of homes and businesses in the UK. So, most people in the countryside go for a mainstream provider on the Openreach network. For example:
If you'd prefer an altnet, Gigaclear isn't the only one focusing on rural broadband.
- Fibrus covers Northern Ireland and parts of northern England
- Quickline covers Yorkshire and Lincolnshire
We've left Virgin Media out of the lists above because although they have lots to offer, they mostly focus on cities and towns.
FAQs
What router does Gigaclear provide?
All Gigaclear broadband services come with a Linksys router.
- For packages up to and including Ultrafast 600, it's a dual-band router that Gigaclear say has better range than a traditional WiFi extender
- For the Hyperfast 900 package only, it's a tri-band router
You have the option to upgrade to a Smart WiFi package with extra ’nodes’ to boost coverage around your home.
Can I get TV with Gigaclear?
Gigaclear doesn't offer its own TV services.
Instead, you can use the fast, reliable broadband to access internet TV from other providers. Even the slowest Gigaclear packages pack more than enough bandwidth for several people to watch Netflix, Amazon Prime or any other streaming service.
Remember, for BBC iPlayer you will need a TV licence.
If you're specifically looking for a combined broadband and TV deal, check out our digital TV page.
What network does Gigaclear use?
Gigaclear builds and maintains its own network of fibre optic cables. Gigaclear's main owner is the infrastructure investor Infracapital, which is itself owned by M&G Plc. There are other private investors too.
In Berkshire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire, Gigaclear is getting funding from Project Gigabit to bring ultrafast broadband to the most hard-to-reach areas. This is in partnership with local authorities.
A few other altnets use Gigaclear's network to deliver their own services by agreement.
Do Gigaclear increase prices?
Gigaclear's terms and conditions say that they may review their charges at any time.
As of May 2025, none of Gigaclear's headline deals specify if there will be price increases during your contract or how much they will be. Because you don't have this information at the start, Gigaclear has to give you at least a month's notice if they do choose to put up prices mid-contract.
You can choose to exit your contract if you don't accept the new price. It’s your legal right - see our guide to your broadband cancellation rights for more information.
All Gigaclear's current headline deals are for an 18-month minimum term. Once that's up, they'll start charging you whatever their standard list price is for that deal at the time. This will almost certainly be a price increase, especially if you started out on a special deal.
Don't wait for your contract to end before exploring your options. Use our search to compare broadband deals and see if you can find something cheaper. Just before the end of a contract is a great time to haggle with your existing broadband provider too.
Do Gigaclear charge for installation?
Yes - there's always a £30 activation fee.
Standard installation is free, but there may be a charge for installations that fall outside Gigaclear's standard process for some reason.
For example, it might be more tricky for them to install a connection if your property is listed, or if there's an unusually long distance from the road to the property. In that kind of situation they might ask you to contribute to the cost.
