What is LightSpeed broadband?
Founded in 2021 with the aim of bringing high-speed internet to rural areas in the East of England, LightSpeed broadband has since expanded to also cover areas in the West Midlands.
Its current CEO is Brett Shepherd, who has more than 12 years’ experience with broadband providers like Gigaclear and Zen Internet.[3]
Referring to LightSpeed’s current customer base, Shepherd says: “"We now cover more than 250,000 homes and businesses across the East of England and West Midlands, with plans to expand to more than 400,000 by 2027.”[4]
In January 2025, LightSpeed joined forces with Neos Networks, one of the UK’s foremost business connectivity providers, to expand its full fibre and wholesale services.[5]

Most LightSpeed broadband packages are 24 months.

LightSpeed broadband speeds
Use our speed checker to see how fast your current broadband is and whether switching to LightSpeed could improve performance throughout your home.
Through its independent full fibre network, LightSpeed broadband offers these symmetrical speeds:
- 150Mbps
- 500Mbps
- 1Gbps
- 2Gbps
Full fibre connects to your home directly from the nearest telephone exchange - no copper wiring required.
As copper wiring tends to slow connections down, full fibre broadband typically offers better speed, stability and performance.
LightSpeed broadband costs
As of 3rd January 2025, LightSpeed is running a promotion for new customers where the prices for a 24-month deal are as follows [6]:
- 150Mbps - £9.99/month for the first six months, then £25.99
- 500Mbps - £9.99/month for the first six months, then £29.99
- 1Gbps - £9.99/month for the first six months, then £34.99
- 2Gbps - £9.99/month for the first six months, then £55.99
If your LightSpeed broadband runs beyond the 24-month minimum term, you will be moved to a deal where you pay whatever the list price is for existing customers at the time of switching.
