Sky TV and broadband
Sky Broadband is one of the UK’s 'Big Four' internet service providers. It offers a range of packages at various speeds, as well as plenty of TV options. Most of Sky's deals are full fibre, with some hybrid fibre options for people on older-style connections.
Key points
- Sky Broadband speeds vary greatly depending on the package
- Sky uses the BT Openreach network to provide its service
- Customers can bundle their broadband with Sky TV channels and phone services
The latest Sky Broadband packages
Sky broadband packages come in a variety of speeds. All deals include Sky Pay As You Talk, where you pay just for the calls you make and the landline itself is free.
Superfast (hybrid fibre)
This is one of Sky's slower packages, suitable for a part fibre connection. Average download speeds are 61Mbps.
Sky's cheaper full fibre deals
If your home has a full fibre connection, you have access to a range of full fibre deals from Sky. As you'd expect, you'll pay less for the lower speeds in this range. As of 3 July 2025, here are the lower, cheaper packages.
Like most broadband providers, Sky Broadband will put your monthly payments up part of the way through your contract. When you're choosing a deal, remember that the monthly cost won't stay the same throughout.
Sky is unusual because it doesn't inform you in advance what the price rises will be. This gives you the right to say you don't accept the new terms, and cancel.
Sky's fastest full fibre deals
There's also a choice of deals at the speedier, pricier end of the scale.
As you've read, the monthly prices will change during the course of your contract.
Find more information in our guide to mid-contract price rises.
What Sky package extras can I get?
When purchasing your broadband package, you can add optional extras and combine your broadband with other Sky products. This includes various SkyTalk offers, SkyTV and Sky Broadband Boosts.
Sky Talk
Sky Talk comes in four different tiers.
- Sky Pay As You Talk is the standard landline service that comes with your broadband. You'll have to pay for any calls you make.
- Sky Talk Evenings & Weekends Extra offers inclusive calls to UK mobiles and landlines during evenings and on the weekends, meaning you can catch up with the family for free during those times.
- Sky Talk Anytime Extra allows you to chat to anyone, anywhere in the UK, any time of the day or night.
- Sky Talk International Extra expands this option to include 50 worldwide destinations.
Sky TV
You can bundle your broadband with Sky’s huge catalogue of TV and entertainment channels.
All Sky TV packages include Sky Atlantic, Netflix and Discovery Plus.
The Essential package gives you 90 free-to-air channels including BBC channels, ITV and Channel 4.
The Ultimate package gives you all that plus a host of other channels, including:
- Comedy Central
- National Geographic
- Sky Comedy
- Sky Nature
- Sky History
You can also add Sky Sports, Sky Kids and Sky Cinema.
Sky Broadband Boosts
For a little extra a month, you can add a boost to your Sky Broadband deal. This gives you a bunch of extra bonuses, including guaranteed Wi-Fi in every room, access to Sky Broadband Buddy (their parental control app), the latest Sky Broadband Hub, flexible engineer visits, and daily line checks.
How much is Sky broadband?
The cost of Sky broadband varies depending on the type of broadband you want and what extras you want to bundle with it. As of July 2025, the cheapest full fibre broadband from Sky is Full Fibre 75, starting at £25 a month.
The most expensive broadband-only deal is Full Fibre Gigafast, starting at £38 a month.
As you've read, the monthly price won't stay the same for the duration of your contract. So when you're choosing a deal, don't forget to factor in any mid-contract price rises.
Use the postcode checker at the top of this page to compare Sky broadband deals in your area.
How fast is Sky broadband?
If you have a full fibre connection, Sky's speed categories start at 75Mbps and top out at 900Mbps - just below the gigabit broadband threshold.
If you're on hybrid fibre you'll probably be limited to around 61Mbps. It's worth checking to see whether your address is eligible for an upgrade to full fibre so you can access a much wider range of speeds.
What broadband speed should I get?
It depends on how many people are sharing your broadband connection, how many devices there are in your home and what kind of thing people are doing online.
If you want to watch telly on streaming platforms like Netflix, we'd suggest you go for a minimum of 50Mbps.
If you have a large family or houseshare and people are doing bandwidth-heavy things like gaming, you should probably go much higher.
Gigabit broadband is the new gold standard for speed, but it's more than most people need. Even with several gamers in the same house you could probably manage just fine on 200Mbps.

Can I upgrade my Sky Broadband package?
If you're already a Sky Broadband customer, upgrading your existing deal might involve:
- Moving to a higher speed category
- Adding new TV channels
- Changing your landline options
The good news is that it's much easier to upgrade your package than it is to downgrade it. You can start the process by logging into your account and going to the Manage Package tab.
Like most broadband providers, Sky will treat your upgrade as the start of a new contract with them. How it usually works:
- They'll let you off any exit fees for leaving your existing contract early
- Your new contract will have a fixed term and you will have to pay exit fees if you leave before the end of that period without paying an exit fee
If you're already close to the end of your deal with Sky, it might be worth holding off until you're actually free.
What Sky Broadband & Mobile packages are available?
Sky is a mobile phone network as well as a broadband provider and TV giant. We asked them in July 2025 if they offer any deals combining the two and they confirmed that they don't. We'd suggest you use our site to compare all your options.
We have a range of Sky mobile deals on our panel:

Why choose Sky broadband?
Sky is one of the 'Big Four' broadband providers in the UK with a healthy share of the market. Like most broadband providers, Sky uses the BT Openreach network to deliver its services. So, it's highly likely that Sky will cover your address.
Probably the biggest reason to choose Sky over other broadband providers is the chance to combine your internet and telly subscriptions and get all those lovely Sky channels. As we explain, combined TV and broadband deals are often better value than paying for those services separately.
Of course, there are other ways to access Sky channels without getting Sky broadband. If the TV channels are your priority, we'd suggest using the postcode search on our TV and broadband deals page to see what's available where you live.
What Sky Broadband contract length can I get?
As of July 2025, all the deals Sky is promoting on its broadband page are for 24-month contracts.
Can I One Touch Switch my broadband to Sky?
Yes. The One Touch Switch process has worked with all providers of fixed-line broadband since September 2024, including Sky.
- If you're comparing deals with us, put your postcode into the address checker to see what's available where you live
- Choose the Sky deal that works for your needs and budget
- Click on 'Get deal'
- Follow the steps to sign up with Sky, including giving your details and choosing an activation date
The beauty of One Touch Switch is that you don't need to do anything to cancel the contract with your existing provider. Your new provider (in this case, Sky) will do the work of coordinating with them to give you a seamless switchover.
If you're still within the minimum term of your contract with the old provider, you'll probably have to pay a fee for leaving early. One Touch Switch takes away the admin but it doesn't let you off exit fees.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I get free Sky WiFi?
Yes, if you're a Sky Broadband customer you can access a useful bonus called Sky WiFi. This gives you free, unlimited internet in lots of public places around the UK. It'll be on the list of networks to connect to as _The Cloud. (Don't forget the underscore.)
Can I get Sky without a landline?
All Sky broadband packages as of July 2025 have a landline service included at no extra cost, but you don't have to use it. If you don't need a home phone then don't plug one in.
How long does Sky broadband installation take?
If your home already has a full fibre connection, you won't need an installation appointment. You just need to pick a date to activate your new service.
If you're currently on hybrid fibre and upgrading to full fibre, Sky will ask you to book an installation appointment. You can usually get one within a fortnight. The actual installation work usually just takes an hour or two. Allow half a day and make sure there's an adult home to give the engineer access and answer any questions.
Are there better Sky broadband deals for new customers?
Usually, yes. It's not just Sky - most broadband providers offer more enticing deals for new customers, to encourage you to switch. When the initial term of your contract is up, you'll be moved to a rolling deal that's almost always poor value compared to the other deals out there.
If you're no longer in contract but happy with Sky and want to stay a customer, now is the time to contact them and ask for something better. Use our tips on how to haggle with your broadband provider.
If you don't like what they offer you, it's time to compare broadband deals and find something better with a different provider.
If I already have a router, can I use it with Sky?
You'll get a broadband hub included with every Sky package at no extra charge, so you won't save any money by using your existing router. We'd always suggest that you use the router from your broadband provider unless you're extremely tech-savvy.
Most providers will only guarantee a certain level of speed and reliability if you're using the router they gave you. It's easier to get tech support too.
The router for most of Sky's broadband packages is the Standard Hub. For Full Fibre 500 and Full Fibre Gigafast, it's the Sky Max Hub.
How much is Sky Broadband for pensioners?
As we explain in our guide to broadband for pensioners, providers don't usually offer any special tariffs or deals just for older people.
If you're on a low income and getting Pension Credit, you could qualify for a social tariff - that's cheaper broadband for people on benefits. Sky's social tariff is known as Sky Broadband Basics. As of June 2025, it costs £20/month. The speed you'll get depends on your connection - check the Sky website for more information.
