Who is Ogi broadband?

Ogi is the leading alternative network (altnet) in Wales, delivering fibre to the premises (FTTP) broadband across Welsh towns and villages. It uses Openreach's full fibre network to provide fast and reliable internet to tens of thousands of customers, with founding member, Sally-Anne Skinner, at the helm as CEO.

In September 2024, Ogi reached a deal on a £45 million financing package to support the company’s next stage of growth. This is allowing Ogi to expand across the ten local authority areas that make up Cardiff’s Capital Region (Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Newport, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Torfaen and the Vale of Glamorgan), where it already has an established presence.

Key points

  • It delivers full fibre to the premises, so it uses fibre optic cables rather than old copper wires
  • You can get gigabit-capable broadband, with Ogi plans offering speeds of up to 1 Gbps
  • Its refer a friend scheme lets you and your mates earn some extra cash

How does Ogi broadband work?

Ogi broadband is a full fibre provider, which means it exclusively uses fibre optic wires to deliver gigabit-capable broadband throughout many parts of Wales. It has its own engineers to help you get connected and it won’t charge you extra for installation.

Use our postcode checker at the top of this page to see if Ogi broadband is available where you live. If it is, you can select a deal you like the look of and complete the sign-up process. If it’s not, check what other broadband deals you can get. Or check to see if Ogi is being rolled out to your home in the near future.

Why choose Ogi broadband?

If you’re looking for full fibre broadband in Wales, Ogi offers fast speeds at competitive prices. It has a 4.4 star rating on Trustpilot, with customers praising its helpful staff, fast service and easy installation. This is a much higher rating than most of the big providers, so Ogi is a solid choice if customer service is important to you.

At the time of writing, its prices start at £25 a month for 250 Mbps, which will give you enough bandwidth for multiple devices to be streaming, scrolling and working at the same time. If that’s not enough for you, you can get 500 Mbps for £35 a month or you could opt for the 900 Mbps plan for £45 a month. So if you want a full fibre plan that offers enough bandwidth for all the family, one of these plans should suit your needs.

And it’s expanding its network to provide fibre to the premises to more Welsh towns and villages. So even if it’s not available where you live right now, it might be in the near future.

Are Ogi broadband reviews good?

Yes, Ogi has a 4.4 star rating on Trustpilot, which means it’s rated as Excellent. It has over 2,000 reviews, with 81% of those rated as 5-star. To put this into perspective, many of the UK’s biggest providers, including BT, Sky and Virgin Media, have a rating of less than 2 stars.

Ogi customers have repeatedly called out their provider for quick, helpful and personalised customer care, with lots of reviews mentioning specific team members by name. It also has plenty of reviews that praise the company for its fast installation and the quality of its technology.

What types of Ogi broadband are available?

Ogi offers full fibre broadband, so it only uses fibre optic cables, instead of any old copper wires. This is all done through the Openreach network. Its plans start from 250 Mbps and go up to 900 Mbps. So it’s aimed at customers who want fast and reliable broadband for busy households, where people work from home, stream and play online games.

What typical speeds does Ogi broadband offer?

At the time of writing, Ogi offers three plans. The first comes with average download speeds of 250 Mbps and average upload speeds of 25 Mbps. The middle plan offers average download speeds of 500 Mbps and average upload speeds of 50 Mbps. And its most expensive plan delivers average download speeds of 900 Mbps and average upload speeds of 90 Mbps. So it caters for households with multiple heavy users.

FAQs

Are routers included in the broadband packages?

Yes, each Ogi broadband package comes with an eero router. The cheapest plan comes with an eero 6 router, the middle plan comes with an eero 7 router and the most expensive package comes with two eero 7 routers to help you make the most of the 900 Mbps average speeds on offer.

What contract lengths can I get with Ogi broadband?

All of Ogi’s plans are on a 24-month minimum contract. After this, your monthly price will likely increase significantly, so it’s important to make sure you know when your contract is due to expire. That way, you can make sure you switch to a cheaper deal before you start paying over the odds for your internet.

What will happen to my landline number if I get an Ogi broadband deal?

Ogi doesn’t use landline wires but if you sign up for Ogi Voice, you’ll be able to keep your phone number. Ogi Voice uses fibre optic cables to deliver your landline service, so you can enjoy clear calls without landline cables.

How long does it take to install Ogi internet?

According to Ogi, its standard installation takes up to two hours, although it can be a lot quicker. The team will set up your full fibre connection and hook up your router(s) for you. They’ll then check everything is working properly before they leave.
